Course Review

General

Written Tuesday, May 5, 2009

Well, I was hoping that my first Calgary golf course review would be a positive one, but unfortunately, I was unimpressed. Today was my first time on a golf course this season at Boulder Creek Golf Course, just outside of Calgary (Langdon) in the South East. Luckily, my brother and I received free green fees from the current Calgary green fee special.

It took us about twenty minutes to get to the course from city limits, but it was poorly marked. When we finally arrived at the course, there wasn't even a sign welcoming us, just a gravel lot with a decent looking clubhouse. Boulder Creek Golf Course is one of Calgary's newest golf courses (2009 is their third season) so maybe some of these things are still under construction?

Course Beauty

One of my favourite parts of golfing is the beauty of the courses. Boulder Creek Golf Course left much to be desired with treeless fairways, damaged grounds, yellow grass, and a very flat layout. The newness of the course is very apparent.

Difficulty

The challenge of Boulder Creek was decent with 14 of its 18 holes considering water hazards (as always with water courses, bring bug spray). The flat layout and absence of natural large trees or hills allows for strong prairie winds. More than once, my ball blew off my tee and a previously stopped ball on the green rolled a few inches from a passing gust. Many of the fairways are quite narrow and long, with one of Alberta's longest par 4 holes (hole 9- 489 yards) and one of Alberta's longest holes stretching over 630 yards (hole 12).

Personal rating

1 star

I give this golf course a 1 out of 5 stars. If invited again, I would probably not revisit the course and would try to convince a friend to play a round at another Calgary golf course.

Do you like this course? Let other's know:
